More information on Flexible refractory insulation

These insulations are fire resistant. They have the advantage of being simple to use, cut and install. Historically, PROSIREF sold only to larger industries. However, through our online shop, individuals now have access to professional quality at an affordable price.

How to choose your flexible high temperature thermal insulation?

>>> Refractory liners and Pyro-log

Optimise and perfect the thermal insulation of your work

  • Insulation and temperature: Liners have a high before and after heating resistance. They can resist temperatures ranging from 400°C to 1600°C. When choosing a higher density liner, you optimise your installation and save space: for the same thickness, the higher the density, the greater the insulation.
  • Mechanical characteristics and machining: Refractory liners are presented in roll form. Needled on both sides, they provide excellent mechanical resistant, especially to tearing. Liners are flexible and easy to cut out (with a cutter). Installing them is even easier as you can compress them to gain amplitude while you put them into place. No need to be the perfect fit. They contain neither lubricant nor binder, and do not emit any smoke or odours during the first heat treatment.
  • Density : from 64kg/m3 to 160kg/m3
  • Thickness : from 6mm to 50mm
  • Used in: ovens, forges, wood stoves, fireplaces, special machines, heat insulation, boilers, thermal protection/screens of all kinds, and more.

A closer look at Pyro-log: A liner which comes in the form of a block (rather than a roll) of 1000 x 610mm and 152mm thick. The density of this flexible high temperature thermal insulation can go up to 240kg/m3, considered higher than classic liners.

>>> Felt and refractory paper

Correcting asperities, adjusting thermal insulation or creating joints

  • Use temperature: We provide felts and papers* in ceramic fibre, bio-soluble and Polycrystalline. Classification temperatures range from 1100°C to 1600°C.
  • Mechanical characteristics and machining: Felt and paper are very flexible and provide good resilience after compression. Given their flexibility, they can easily be compressed into shapes. These high-temperature insulators can be inserted between two vertical walls. They can allow, for example, to correct asperities between refractory panels or bricks. Semi-rigid, neither brittle nor dusty, they are also recommended for cut out parts. Some felts are specially treated to allow molten aluminium to stay dry.
  • Density : up to 210kg/m3 depending on the product
  • Thickness : from 1mm to 10mm
  • Uses : Expansion joints, thermal screen insulation, burner joints, boiler door joints… thanks to their small width, felts and papers can slide between practically anything to complete insulation. These are perfect expansion joints between different refractories to fill in the gaps when dealing with high temperatures.

*Note : A « paper » is a very thin felt. Felt comes in sheet form, whereas paper is sold in rolls. It is considered good flexible high temperature thermal insulation.

As well as your flexible high temperature thermal insulation, you may need refractory materials to complete your insulation, such as first-layer or underlay refractory boards.
