What are underlay refractory panels used for?

Our underlay insulating panels are used as a back layer to another material (brick, cement, refractory panels…). They will often be necessary to finish the insulation of fireplaces, stoves, ovens or boilers. Be careful, insulation materials from this category are not fire resistant.

A few tips for choosing your high-temperature insulation panels

For your project, choose underlay refractory panels according to the insulation power and the mechanical resistance that you are looking for. These materials are not flame resistant.

   > Calcium silicate boards

Calcium silicate has the advantage of being light and easy to cut (with simple tools). It is a self-supporting material with excellent crush resistance. Silicate has a strong insulation capacity. Maximum temperature: up to 1100°C (depending on the chosen panel)

    > Microporous boards

Microporous boards are high-end materials. They provide exceptional insulation with very low conductivity. These boards are thinner and therefore take up less space. The processing is slightly more technical than other underlay insulation boards.

Maximum temperature: up to 1000°C (depending on the chosen panel)

   > Bio-soluble fibreboards

Fibrous panels represent a compromise between calcium silicate and microporous panels. Their use is classic. They are thermic-shock resistant and are made from a hydrophobic material, which allows concrete to be poured directly over it.
